However, this mylar packaging is not suitable for items with high moisture, like fresh fruits, dairy products, and meat. This is because mylar bags prevent air and oxygen, and hence the food in these bags can get bacteria, and get spoiled.
Food-grade mylar is highly protective for air, oxygen, and moisture, which can produce entirely different results for various food products. Usually, the dried food can remain safe and fresh for almost 20 to 25 years.
The preventive layers of foils can enhance the protection, durability, shelf life, and usability. These layers of foil and plastic can be the best protective shield for moisture, gas, and light.
Pouring hot water in mylar bags may result in harmful and damaging food content of these bags. That’s why we don’t recommend putting warm water in black mylar pouches.
The strength and durability of mylar bags highly depends on the size of the mylar measured in mil. The average range of thickness of these bags' material varies from 4 mil to 7.5 mil. The thickness of 4 mil is not considered a good thickness option to produce mylar packaging for long term storage. However, the thickness you increase (usually up to 7.5 mil), the better protection you will gain for long term protection of your food products.
