FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A box with a lid goes by several names depending on its style, how the lid attaches, and what it is used for. Two-Piece Box, Hinged Box, Casket, and Telescoping Box are the most popular names for it.

To fold a flat-packed gift box lid, pop the flat piece open and fold all four perforated edges inward to create 90-degree walls. Then, fold the inner corner tabs to lock the sides in place, and tuck the double-fold edges securely over the top and into the slots.

Boxes that fit inside each other are most commonly called nested boxes. Depending on their specific design and use, you might also hear them referred to as Collapsible or flat-pack boxes or Telescoping boxes.

To design a box with a lid, first determine your primary material and dimensions. Create the base as an open 3D form. Next, design the lid slightly larger (add 2–5 mm of tolerance) so it fits comfortably over the base. Finally, finalize your template or 3D model, then cut or print it.
